I've had an obsession with old school surf brands and island life since I can remember. Quicksilver, Billabong, RipCurl... I couldn't get enough of them growing up. My weekends were spent at the local surf life saving club, our holidays on the beaches of south east Asia. One of my oldest and dearest friends predicted I would end up barefoot and living in a caravan, married to a surfer, on the beach in a tropical location. He wasn't far off!
The kind of surf style I've always gone for has been the laid-back type with a strong message of peace and happiness. A very 70's vibe I guess, or rather a very 70's way of looking at things; world peace, sunshine, natural, full of love and acceptance.
I've been so excited watching the world of surfing embracing the world of raw vegan food. Smoothie bowls by the ocean side, I mean who could ask for anything more! Also, watching our babies growing up barefoot, wandering down little surf roads and buying fresh fruit from local fruit stand, what a dream come true!
Bree Hannemann is a Oahu based photographer in Hawaii. Her home and her mutual love for island living was the perfect reason to work with her on our Tropicana lookbook shoot. We weren't disappointed! She's captured perfectly all the love we have for island surf life.
This is our launch collection for Island State Co. Our aim is to be Australia's first eco surf brand for kids and we are working with the most fabulous GOTS certified manufacturer to bring you super soft organic fabrics and eco-dyeing. Even our swing-tags are made from upcycled drink coasters! Organic is a process and it takes time to get right. We are dedicated to carefully finding more and more ways to have a brand that helps protect our waters and mother earth, supports fair trade and is a proud part of the organic fashion industry.
We hope you love it! xx Island State Co
